Wegner's School of Taxidermy

Instruction covers big game, small game, birds, and fish, with an emphasis on practical skills you can use to offer commercial taxidermy services.

Students learn standard mount types such as shoulder and game head mounts, full-body and bird mounts, tanning, and habitat-style displays.

Owner and instructor Ron Wegner has worked in taxidermy since 1980 and built the school’s program on decades of field and teaching experience, with advanced training from a Golden Master taxidermist.

Small class sizes, one-on-one instruction, and a fully equipped, handicap-accessible facility support detailed, realistic work and modern techniques.

Tuition is clearly outlined, with the six-week Professional Taxidermy Course listed at $16,400 with a $5,000 down payment and one- to two-week classes ranging from $2,800 to $4,800 with a $400 down payment, while specimens are purchased separately at posted rates.

Classes run on a published calendar schedule—typically one or two weeks for individual courses and six weeks for the professional program—with instruction held Monday through Saturday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and no sessions on holidays.

The school also teaches freeze-dry work for turkey heads and how to build habitat bases and scenic displays as part of its training.
